Renolution: Brussels' energy renovation plan
Brussels launched the Renolution plan in 2022, merging former energy and renovation subsidies into a single portal. This ambitious plan aims to renovate the entire Brussels housing stock by 2050.
Timeline of obligations
- 2033: Properties with PEB F and G must achieve at least label E
- 2040: Obligation to achieve at least label D
- 2050: Target carbon neutrality for the entire stock
Renolution subsidies
To support these obligations, Brussels offers some of the most generous subsidies in the country:
- Roof insulation: up to 5,500 EUR
- Wall insulation: up to 7,000 EUR
- Heat pump: up to 8,000 EUR
- Windows: up to 4,500 EUR
- Ventilation: up to 3,000 EUR
Amounts vary based on household income (3 categories). Low-income households receive maximum amounts.
Market impact
Renovation obligations in Brussels create a discount for energy-inefficient properties. Properties rated PEB E, F and G see their prices drop 5 to 15% compared to well-rated properties. This trend is expected to strengthen as deadlines approach.
