Real estate tax declaration

Annual reporting obligations related to property ownership and income in Belgium.

Full definition

The property tax declaration covers Belgian owners' obligations towards the FPS Finance. In the personal income tax return, income from one's own home is exempt. Owners must report the cadastral income of other properties not let, the indexed CI increased by 40% for properties let to individuals for private use, and the actual rent minus flat-rate costs for properties let for business use. Properties abroad also receive a cadastral income: the owner must declare them to the FPS Finance, as well as any purchase, sale or alteration. For a property in Belgium, the owner must report any new construction, renovation or alteration on their own initiative, as it may change the cadastral income.
