Solar panels
Photovoltaic installation on the roof converting sunlight into electricity.
Full definition
Photovoltaic solar panels produce electricity from sunlight. In Belgium, despite moderate sunshine, they remain a profitable investment with a 6 to 10 year payback period. The cost of a standard residential installation (6 to 10 kWp) ranges from EUR 5,000 to EUR 12,000 excluding VAT. Regulations vary greatly by region: in Flanders, the reversing meter was abolished (prosumer tariff and digital meter); in Wallonia, the reversing meter is maintained until 2030 for existing installations; in Brussels, a green certificate system is in place. Grants exist in some regions and VAT is 6% for dwellings over 10 years old. Solar panels increase property value and improve the EPC label.
