Full definition
The notary is a public officer appointed by the King who must intervene in every real estate transaction in Belgium. Their duties include: drafting the notarial deed, mortgage and urban planning searches, calculating and collecting registration rights, verifying the seller's ownership, and registration in the land registry. Notary fees are regulated by law and follow a degressive scale based on the property price. The buyer is free to choose their notary.
