Party wall
Shared wall between two neighboring properties, subject to a shared legal regime.
Full definition
A party wall is the legal regime applicable to walls, hedges, or fences located on the boundary between two neighboring properties. In Belgian law, a party wall belongs in co-ownership to both neighbors. Each may use it (lean a construction against it, for example) provided they do not harm the other. Maintenance and repair costs are shared. A neighbor can acquire co-ownership of a private wall by paying half its value.
