Gentrification

Socio-economic transformation of a working-class neighborhood through an influx of wealthier residents.

Full definition

Gentrification is an urban transformation process in which a working-class neighborhood attracts higher-income residents, leading to rising property prices, building renovation, and changes in commercial composition. In Belgium, this is particularly visible in Brussels (Saint-Gilles, Schaerbeek, Molenbeek) and certain districts of Ghent and Antwerp.
