Abatement

Abatement is a reduction applied to the taxable base of registration rights when purchasing real estate. Each Belgian region has its own system: in Wallonia, abatement of €20,000 (saving €2,500); in Brussels, abatement of €200,000 for properties under €600,000 (saving €25,000); in Flanders, the system was replaced by a reduced rate of 3% for the sole own dwelling.
