Housing cheque

Walloon tax benefit replacing the housing bonus for mortgages on one's own dwelling.

Full definition

The housing cheque is the Walloon tax benefit that came into effect in 2016 to replace the housing bonus. It takes the form of a tax reduction calculated based on household income and family composition. The base amount is EUR 1,520 per borrower (for the lowest incomes), gradually decreasing as income rises, and becomes zero above an income ceiling of approximately EUR 93,000. A supplement of EUR 125 per dependent child is granted. The housing cheque is limited to the first 20 years of the mortgage and is exclusively reserved for the sole own dwelling in Wallonia. It is more favorable to modest incomes than the former housing bonus.
